Marilá Dardot’s production consistently engages with language and literature through videos, photographs, prints, sculptures, paintings, actions, and site-specific installations. Some of her works reference authors and literary or philosophical works in their titles, while others explore the formal aspect of books and the construction of publicly accessible spaces, such as libraries.
Her work is featured in significant collections, including the Pera Art Museum (Istanbul), Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo), and Museu de Arte Moderna – MAM SP (São Paulo). Additionally, Dardot has a permanent pavilion at Instituto Inhotim (Brazil) showcasing one of her works, A origem da obra de arte (2002-2011). In May 2022, she inaugurated the permanent installation Pensamento do Fora (revisited) at Parque do Governador in Vitória, ES, featuring sixty signposts placed throughout the park. These signposts replace typical informational phrases with quotes from books by women, LGBTQIA+, Black, and Indigenous authors, published or reissued in Brazil over the last twenty years.
Dardot’s work has been exhibited at national and international institutions, including Galpão VB (São Paulo, 2018), Seattle Art Museum (Seattle, 2017), Pera Museum (Istanbul, 2017), Museu da Cidade (São Paulo, 2016), MAC Lyon (Lyon, 2014), Astrup Fearnley Museet (Oslo, 2013), David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (Cambridge, 2012), the 29th São Paulo Biennial (São Paulo, 2010), and the 27th São Paulo Biennial (São Paulo, 2006).
